The Goat Village

true stars of Lindarets Village!

Family Experience Par Excellence: A must-visit during summer vacations in Avoriaz and its surroundings, the renowned "Goat Village" is an essential stop for anyone staying in Haute-Savoie. Situated in the Aulps Valley, Lindarets Village earned its name due to the presence of goats freely roaming the streets, seeking affection and treats from visitors. In the summer season, they bring the village to life, offering their playful antics amidst Lindarets and its alpine pastures, with the sound of hooves echoing on the cobblestones. Warm, welcoming, and authentic, the goat village perfectly embodies the spirit of the High Savoyard mountains.

History of Lindarets Village

Originally an alpine hamlet, Lindarets accommodated shepherds and their families until the 1950s summer months. The village's chalets were designed primarily for functionality, showcasing the alpine architecture of the time, characterized by roofs covered with tavaillons, specific wooden tiles typical of high-altitude regions. With the development of Morzine and Avoriaz, alpine chalets gradually gave way to restaurants and cafes catering mainly to tourists. Currently, the goats roaming the village belong to a shepherd based in Morzine, allowing them to enjoy the refreshing air of Lindarets during the summer season.

An Activity for All

Mountain vacations offer a fantastic opportunity to introduce nature to the youngest and familiarize them with animals. At over 1400 meters above sea level, facing an exceptional panorama, children can feed treats (available in the hamlet) to the goats that come to greet them. Accustomed to human presence, the goats are adept at melting hearts and willingly pose for photos, provided they are thanked with a tasty reward. The stroll in Lindarets appeals to all audiences: families with children, young couples on a romantic getaway, or retirees accustomed to mountain stays. Everyone will appreciate the unusual sight of goats compelling visitors to deviate from their path to continue their journey.

Goat Village and Local Products: Authentic Haute-Savoie

A visit to the goat village guarantees a day filled with laughter and an immersion in Haute-Savoie's terroir, thanks to the presence of dining establishments offering sunny terraces, perfect for observing the spectacle while savoring the region's emblematic products. To commemorate your visit to Lindarets, you can also stock up on cheeses (Savoy tomme and local goat cheeses, of course!) and take a detour to souvenir shops.

Accessing the Goat Village

The road leading to Lindarets immerses you in the ambiance of the peaks, offering magnificent landscapes. If traveling by car, various free parking areas can be found around the hamlet. Please note that since 2022, access by road during the summer months is only permitted in a downward direction from Col de Joux-Verte. Only bicycles and vehicles with a PMR sticker can use it in both directions.

By Bicycle

Lindarets Village is accessible by bike from Morzine or Montriond, allowing you to combine sports and leisure on sunny terraces after exertion. Cyclists can take the blue Brochaux trail, located in the Portes du Soleil area, before following the road from Chaux Fleurie for a few minutes.

By Cable Car

For comfort, opt for the cable car to enjoy a gentle ride offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and alpine pastures. You'll need to take the Ardent cable car to discover the goat village and its gastronomy. Feel free to download our Avoriaz ski resort map to know the lift's status at any time.

On Foot

Want to combine family hiking with a break among the goats? We recommend starting from Lake Montriond to reach Lindarets, making sure to stop at the Brochaux waterfall to enjoy this peaceful haven in the midst of nature.

Tips for Your Visit to the Goat Village

  • Remember to bring a leash to keep your dog in the village.
  • Only give the goats treats sold in Lindarets.
  • Prefer mornings for your visit.
  • Don't forget to wear a hat, sunscreen, and bring enough water as the hamlet and its surroundings invite leisurely sunbathing!
