Hikes in Avoriaz

Discovering alpine landscapes

Discovering the most beautiful trails in Avoriaz From family walks to challenging hikes

Avoriaz and the Portes du Soleil offer a vast choice of walks for all levels, from views of Mont Blanc to lakes, mountain pastures, forests and cliffs.

Lake Montriond and the Ardent waterfall

Lac de Montriond is undoubtedly a natural area to discover during your stay in Avoriaz. Suitable for swimming, it is bordered by a path that allows you to walk around it in 45 minutes. To keep you busy during your day at the lake, there are a variety of activities open to all, including stand-up paddling, kayaking and pony rides in this beautiful green setting.

At the far end of the lake, don't hesitate to take the path towards the forest to reach the Cascade d'Ardent and its impressive waterfalls. Our advice? Set off in the morning to enjoy the beauty of the area on your own.

The Brochaux waterfall

The Brochaux waterfall is just a 40-minute walk from the village of Lindarets, famous for its free-roaming goats. Ideal during the day to enjoy the cool waters, it is also highly recommended to visit at sunset to take in the sights in complete tranquillity.

Want to make the walk last longer? Head for La Lécherette before taking the Lindarets chairlift to Avoriaz. Don't forget to take the interactive map of the Avoriaz slopes with you when planning your next hike to the summits!

Lake Chavanette

The Lac de Chavanette walk is suitable for children and adults alike. It's only 100 metres long and offers a pleasant view over Avoriaz. Set between the lake and the rocks, this trail is a great way to take holiday photos and will leave you with memories of a wonderful, peaceful day. Be careful, though, as the start of the walk is very exposed to the sun, so be sure to bring plenty of water.

The Morzinette mountain pasture (L'Alpage de Morzinette)

Two of the mountain's emblems can be found along this route: blueberries and marmots, which you can hear long before you see them. The walk takes you past the Combe du Machon and the Morzinette mountain pasture, from where you can admire the Ardoisières cliffs. The family hike ends with the Prodains cable car to Avoriaz.

Pointe de Chavanette from Avoriaz

Objective: 15 km and 825 metres of ascent, for regular hikers only. From Avoriaz, take the Lindarets chairlift to find the start of the route in the village. The Col de Cuboré is the high point of the hike: at an altitude of 2,200 metres, the invigorating air helps you recharge your batteries and feel the benefits of the mountains. The panoramic views of the French and Swiss Alps invite you to relax. The descent takes you through meadows filled with mountain flowers: the perfect way to return to your accommodation in Avoriaz feeling as good as new.

The Pas de Chavanette and Lake Avoriaz

An accessible but exposed hike with no shade, ideal for lovers of mineral landscapes.
The walk starts from Place Jean Vuarnet, in the Hauts-Forts district. You can also start from Place du Snow, by taking the path between the Snow and Alegro buildings. The route leads down to the start of the Lac Intrêts chairlift. Then follow the path along Lake Avoriaz to the right. The path climbs slightly, passes to the left of a tunnel and leads to a unique alpine setting. Alternative: for more experienced walkers, a more demanding path starts to the left of the Choucas chairlift. It crosses a small lake before climbing to the Pas de Chavanette. This point marks the Franco-Swiss border and offers a remarkable panorama of the Valais and the Swiss resorts of the Portes du Soleil.
Return: via the same route.
Please note: this hike takes place on a very mineral site, with no shade or vegetation. Remember to keep well hydrated and protect yourself from the sun throughout.

Champéry from Avoriaz

Champéry is accessible from the Avoriaz plateau via 3 lifts, but you can also add a sporting dimension to the route by choosing one of the various hiking trails that you can join at each chairlift change. Armed with a topographical map, you can set off on an adventure and conquer the peaks from wherever you like.
